Christopher "Chris" Sadler is an Assistant Chief with the York County, VA, Department of Fire and Life Safety where he has severed for over 31 years. He currently commands the Technical Services and Special Operations Division which includes all special teams and special events, the departments’ health and safety program, apparatus and facilities, hazmat CBRNE training facility, logistics, grants, and management of the departments’ operational budget. Chris holds an associate’s degree in Fire Science, is a Nationally Registered Paramedic, and a graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program. He has served for over 20 years as a Safety Officer with the FEMA USAR Virginia Task Force 2. Additionally, he is an FAA Part 107 Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Remote Pilot, and holds numerous other certifications in firefighting, EMS, special operations, and command areas of the fire/rescue service. Chris represents the International Association of Fire Chief’s as a Principal on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Technical Committee on UAS for Public Safety. He is the Fire Service representative to the Virginia Governors’ Secure Commonwealth Sub-panel for UAS. Additionally, he serves as a Vice Chairman of the National Council on Public Safety UAS, and is the Fire/Rescue Lead on the Association of Unmanned Vehicle Systems International Trusted Operator Program. He is the co-creator of the York County/Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) Hazmat-CBRNE Training Facility and is a Hazmat Specialist and adjunct instructor with VDEM specializing in hazardous materials response programs.
